The Jefferson-Scranton and East Greene boards of education both moved forward with vehicle purchases at their respective meetings Nov. 18. The vehicles will become the property of the consolidated Greene County Community School District next July 1.
The J-S board approved the purchase of a 4-wheel drive pickup truck with a snowplow package. The purchase will be from Deery Brothers at the state bid price of $33,545. The vehicle will be used for snow removal and for heavy jobs like towing the portable restroom trailer. Funding will come from SILO and PPEL funds.
The East Greene board directed transportation director Shawn DeMoss to get prices on two minivans. The board asked him to look at state bid prices and at dealer prices on pre-owned vehicles. A 1996 van that doesn’t run will be removed from the fleet. DeMoss expects one van in the fleet will not pass an upcoming state inspection because of rust, and another van will soon need repair to its transmission. Those two vehicles will be sold or traded in, depending on the conditions of purchase on the newer vans.
